Updated Interactive Speaking Questions:
July 1, 2025 onwards, the speaking section of the Duolingo English Test will be updated. The DET is adding an Interactive Speaking section. This will simulate natural conversation to test the speaking ability of the applicant. Here are the point-wise changes in this section
- Simulated Conversation: You will have a simulated conversation with an animated character of DET. You’ll be asked a series of 6-8 questions based on conversation.
- Replaced and Removed Sections: Interactive Speaking is replacing the “Listen, Then Speak” section. Also, DET removed the “Read Aloud” question type.
- Adaptive Questions: There will be 5 to 6 adaptive questions based on the conversation with the animated character.
- Scoring Impact: Your performance in Interactive Speaking will directly affect your overall score and Speaking section subscore.
- Response Time: Test takers will get only 35 seconds to record the answer to each question.
The major reason behind these changes is to test the speaking and listening skills of applicants in real-life situations.
